The Tradition Continues...

From the ballpark's earliest days in the mid-1940s, the citizens of Corvallis and the surrounding area have given of their time, talents, and money to turn a forlorn field into a facility that has hosted State, Regional, and National tournaments. For more than 60 years Hansen Stadium at Taylor Field has provided a stage for young ballplayers to:

"keep the rules, keep faith with their teammates, keep their temper, keep themselves fit, keep a stout heart in defeat and their pride under in victory, and keep a sound soul, clean mind and a healthy body."

Fans of all ages have been drawn to the field, thus making it a gathering spot for the whole community. They have watched 6 State Champion teams (1970, 1977, 1978, 1990, 2003, and 2009) and 3 Regional Champion teams (1978, 1990, and 2003) grace the ball field. Beginning with the team's first coach - Gene Hansen (pictured above with wife Helen) - a great tradition of well-played baseball by outstanding young men from the local community has been a summer standard for baseball in Corvallis. Come watch the Marketmen and enjoy the best summer baseball in town!

Corvallis Gerding Builders Marketmen

In 2011, Tom Gerding and his company, Gerding Builders, took over the sponsorship of team. It has been a smooth and seemless transition from the 41 years of sponsorship by Richey's Market. Some have wondered why the team continues to have the "Marketmen" as the mascot; the reason being that the Gerding family - prior to the construction business - owned and operated several markets in the Corvallis area. It looks like there will be many more years of Marketmen baseball in Corvallis.
